Mary Ann and the love of beetroot

MaryAnn-beets

my favourite veggie in the garden:

I guess beetroot is my favourite vegetable because it is so versatile and bright blush purpley red!
It can be savoury or sweet (just like me), all parts can be used – try stir frying the leaves, crunchy or silky smooth. And it turns your fingers (and bench tops) pink. I guess another pretty cool thing is that if you over indulge in beetroot you can have pink pee – try not to be alarmed if this happens, just think about the delicious food you have eaten.
I am lead to believe that beetroot is rich in calcium, iron and vitamins A and C. They are an excellent source of folic acid and a very good source of fibre, manganese and potassium – why do we eat anything else?
We frequently grow beetroot in the garden and it quickly disappears when harvested.

my favourite thing about the garden:

I have really enjoyed being a member of the garden, the friends I have made, the joy and laughter, getting my hands dirty and the newly instigated “bee triage” with the yellow rotation at working bees. Or should that be “beet riage”?
