Lettuce is a leafy vegetable which can come in many varieties with green or purple leaves. It can have smooth or curly leaves and can be picked as a whole plant or individual leaves.

The leaves are most often used raw in green salads, although lettuce is also seen in other kinds of food, such as sandwiches, wraps and soups; it can also be grilled.
