Mort Bay Community Garden is run by an enthusiastic bunch of local volunteers

about mbcg

The garden is situated in a public park, on land owned by the Inner West Council. It is open to everyone to visit. There are no individual plots as the garden is run communally and members share the produce.

Our decision-making is democratic, inclusive and transparent. We do not discriminate against one another due to differences in race, gender, disability, culture or sexuality.

Organic gardening principles are followed. Our community composting recycles plant material from the garden, and is also open to local residents to contribute their vegetable scraps.

In this beautiful space, we provide a place where local residents can:

• grow and take home fresh, nutritious food

• connect with other people and build friendships

• share knowledge on how to grow vegetables sustainably

• enjoy being active in the fresh air and sunshine

how our garden works

planning & organisation

The garden is run by the Mort Bay Community Garden Association.
A committee is elected annually, to lead the organisation and development of the garden. The work is organised in teams.

garden activities

We hold monthly garden bees and garden gatherings where we share knowledge, socialise and celebrate the garden. See our garden calendar

We invite the local community into the garden for events such as our Garden Spring Fair and we also hold fundraisers, including our Christmas Stall & Raffle.

There are many ways you can get involved in the garden such as: garden care, raising seedlings, making compost, site maintenance and the surrounding native garden. You can also support the garden as a social member. Find out more:
